  • Daily GTE R154 swap Project

Modifications: Recently purchased this black GS300 - In rough shape so lots of work to do but already got some stuff done and a lot of parts waiting for other parts
    Cusco Street Zero A coilovers
    Cusco Sway bars
Cusco front and reat strut braces.
Cusco RS LSD - arriving in a week.
    Cusco single plate clutch kit
(Israeli cusco dealer so all parts are relatively cheap for me :-) )
Bushes all around - waiting on them to arrive.
Work Gnosis cv202 (also local dealer here in Israel)
Bought a whole car in Japan - with under 50k km on it so its a great parts car.
    Sourced the following from it:
VVTi gte with harness - my car is 01 gs300 means sway is pretty much plug and play.
Air box and other stock stuff too.
GOt the entire lsd case and driveshaft.
Converting to manual - so sourced a r154 front half driveshaft.
Sourced a jzx110 r154 - the tripod version so hopefully wont need to extend much if at all but will see.

Re: Daily GTE R154 swap Project

Clutch pedal placed but not bolted in completely as i need to go there and confirm location as there is some room to play with it right to left.
Its a internal cylinder clutch pedal type so no issues with the cylinder placement in the engine bay. Its a remote reservoir type. And yes its from the lexus lineup .

Awesome! Really diggin' the whole setup. I have an early JZZ30 internal shifted R154 in my first gen GTE VVT-I gs300. Love it! I definitely need to upgrade to sway bars + LSD! Subscribing to your thread for progress

Sways were obviously a great upgrade. Not having an lsd even with the stock ge engine is disggusting . Never owned a car witout a good LSD. This will be no exception.

Going to adapt a sc300 HB for it should be relatively easy.

Clutch pedal all mounted and sits perfect.
We did reinforce the pedal a bit as it only uses two of the three mounting holes. Just for good measure.
And just finalized the rear brake upgrade adapter... Fitted and is perfect. Wont be revealing what i am using just yet but i believe this is one of the more complicated brackets i have had to design and make in my entire custom brake upgrade history

Front done already but wont fit them until swap is done.

Re: Daily GTE R154 swap Project

                      A bit of progress...
Old engine and Trans out. Engine bay and front sub frame degreased.
Cleaned up the r154 main shift and installed the Cusco Single plate clutch assembly and all clutch related components and mated the jzx110 r154 to the engine.
Engine should be going in tomorrow.
If anyone has a pic of how the manipulated the heater hose, the ones coming out of the firewall that would be great just so can get an idea of what needs to done exactly and what needs to be bent.
                      On to the pics.

Re: Daily GTE R154 swap Project

Installed a Chinese 6spd shifter in the r154 box, a bit of modifications to mounting plates but not too bad.
Waiting on the TRD short shifter I ordered but it's taking sooooo long I used this in the mean time.
Nothing much to report beyond that as I got caught up with day to day stuff.

                              Sure.
The jzx110 and later model Soarer r154 Trans have the shifter which uses this type of lower attachment
                              http://s1176.photobucket.com/user/ve...shift.jpg.html
The 6spd supra also mounts this way.
The mounting plates that come with the 6spd have 4 holes which are wider apart than the r154 holes so I just notched the plates enough to get the bolts to fit.
Now it's not a clean perfect fit but it works.
I also don't need the wide alloy part you see on the shifter as its basically used for the supra 6spd reverse lockout mechanism. I will leave it on just for a bit of weight but will see if it helps or not later down the line.
                              It works ☺
